As from 12.01am on Thursday 19 November 2020 for a period of six (6) days, people are only be able to leave their homes in South Australia for prescribed reasons. One of those reasons is to obtain essential veterinary services or goods from a veterinary clinic. Another reason is to obtain urgent services for the health or safety of an animal.
Veterinary clinics in South Australia are permitted to remain operational during this period BUT ONLY TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL VETERINARY SERVICES AND GOODS INCLUDING MEDICATIONS.
Operating to provide essential veterinary services and goods during the Government mandated shut-down period is a privileged position for veterinary surgeons and veterinary services providers. There are high public expectations around the conduct of veterinary surgeons during this time. Veterinary surgeons must act to protect and uphold this privileged position. This means ONLY providing essential veterinary services and goods.
The Guideline assists veterinary surgeons and veterinary services providers to make decisions about which veterinary services and goods are essential and need to be provided during the shut-down period, and which services are not essential and therefore need to be postponed.
The Veterinary Surgeons Board of South Australia staff will provide core registration and regulatory operations under the Veterinary Practice Act 2003 during the shut-down period. Please contact staff by email at [email protected] during this time.
